 Marysia Do is quickly establishing her global reputation as a meticulous, encyclopaedic teacher of teachers. Her superb practice is the embodiment of her knowledge. She is known as the queen of handstand by her students and followers. 

Marysia loves handstands and every variation thereof. Who doesn't like having their world turned upside down from time to time? At seventeen she took her first little flip around when she moved from New York to California to attend USC. There, in Santa Monica, she spent the past ten years refining her yoga practice with her fabulously fun, yet intensely strict teachers Brock and Krista Cahill, follow on with Dharma Mittra, Briohny and Dice. After graduating from USC, she spent the next four years in graduate school studying Chinese Medicine. Marysia is a licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist. Her daily handstanding-flow-yoga practice helped prepare her for the next big flip which took her across the globe to Singapore in September 2013. Now here she is! Learning about life from yet another perspective.

Marysia enjoys stepping outside her comfort zone and encourages her yoga students to do the same. Although she loves "crazy" or advance yoga postures, she is pragmatic. She believes that building a sustainable daily practice requires a deeper level of awareness. In her class you will refine simple postures and build a strong foundation. Marysia is meticulous when it comes to alignment. She sees yoga as a healing art that, when practised mindfully, will never cause injury. With a strong foundation and a lot of core work, students have quick access to postures they may never have thought possible. Students will have an opportunity to conquer fears and overcome obstacles in a safe environment

STABILIZE YOUR COURAGE

In this workshop you will learn unique techniques to enhance coordination, build strength and increase flexibility for Arm Balancing, Inverting, Back Bending and Handstand. What most yogis don’t know is that the physical alignments in yoga postures are not universal. Everyone’s body is different and so are the methodologies for advancing your practice. During the workshop you will benefit from a heightened awareness about your body and how you can move through and beyond any obstacles. Unique actions will be prescribed based on your body. Greater strength and flexibility are hidden in the nuances. You will learn how you can enrich your yoga experience and transform your practice. You will also increase your stamina by learning to work smarter: with greater breath awareness and more purposeful alignment.

DAY 1 -9 MARCH 2018

 

Various arm balancing postures will be broken down and clear connections will be made to some less advanced postures so that you gain accessibility into the more advanced postures. 

Increasing hip mobility means learning how to decipher between helpful and harmful pain.  Marysia will teach you how to differentiate between the two.  

In class you will learn innovative and highly effective techniques to enhance the mobility in your hips and make arm balances such as astavakrasana and koundinyasa 2 and others more accessible.  The postures are a progression and in this strong flow class Marysia will take you through various exercises to advance your arm balancing, and hip opening practice.

DAY 2 - 10 MARCH 2018

 

Handstand, headstand and forearm balance will be studied slowly and methodically and then connected in a powerful flow.

As intimidating as inversions can be, the alignment cues for practicing them are quite consistent.  The work is stabilizing the mind and connecting the mind to the body while being in a bit of a precarious position.  To make inversions more accessible Marysia will have you practice the alignment in standing poses and other postures that are more familiar.  Once your body becomes well acquainted with the appropriate muscular contractions we then take it upside down into a flying flow.  During the flow analysis is set aside and we practice trusting ourselves.  Work hard, play hard, rest.

Back bends such as scorpion, chin stand and hollow back will be examined.  Then you will learn intermediate or advanced steps to help you achieve or refine the postures.

The alignment cues person to person in backbends are very variable.  Back pain is the most common yoga related injury.  In class Marysia will show you unique techniques to keep your spine safe while moving into more advanced back bending postures.  Class is a flow intended to make you more aware of this long part of your body, which is outside of your field of vision.  With greater awareness you will find yourself moving with precision and confidence.

DAY 3 - 11 MARCH 2018

SURYA NAMASKAR H

Handstand cultivating the readiness that we are better prepared to take risk.  Get up and stand up or fall with a smile. This workshop is for anyone who wants who wants to develop an independent handstand practice. Focusing on full body activation and alignment that improve balance and make transition smoother. You will build confidence while getting introduced to many playful variations of handstand. Students would hold poses for an extended period of time and learn to engage in sophisticated energetic alignment to build strength and awareness

 

Every pose can be used as a preparatory pose for handstand, it’s simply a matter of understand how.  In the workshop Marysia will teach the nuances of each posture in Surya Namaskar H; her original sequence used to prepare students for Handstand.   She will also explain the relevance of other postures to inversions.  Students who are newer to going upside down will learn how they can expedite their path toward defying gravity using less advanced postures would learn how to get of the wall in time.  Seasoned practitioners will cultivate more stability and explore challenging transitions into and out of handstand.   When we practice moving with purpose we are better prepared to leap out our of comfort zone and into a handstand or any other life experience.
