I believe that yoga can be a powerful tool for transformation. My journey started in the gym, where I spent several years working out obsessively and counting every calorie. I was convinced that if I could work out enough to have the perfect body, I would be happy. Instead I felt even more lost. In 2012 I found yoga, and though I did not find all of my answers I felt that I was on the right path. When I did my first 200 hour teacher training I didn't think I would teach right away, I simply wanted to deepen my own practice. But after subbing my very first class I fell in love with the power of sharing this practice with others. 

As a lover of movement, I am passionate about my practice. I have studied Ashtanga Yoga, Rocket Yoga, Yoga Nidra, and various styles of Vinyasa Yoga. Being curious about the physical body has also taken me off the mat to study with hand balancers, circus performers, movement artists and contortionists to expand my knowledge and explore the capabilities of my body.

After experiencing a life changing wrist injury I completely redefined my yoga practice in many ways, placing more emphasis on a strong foundation and finding gratitude for my body with or without advanced asana. Don't get me wrong, I still love intense practice but more importantly I have learned to value being a good person over being good at yoga asana.

In This WORKSHOP you will learn TO BEND, TWIST, FOLD, AND STRENGTHEN YOUR BODY SO THAT YOU CAN FREE THE MOVEMENT OF YOUR SPINE. BEGINNING WITH A SHORT DISCUSSION AND MEDITATION, YOU WILL BE GUIDED THROUGH IRENE'S WARM UP SEQUENCE TO BREAK DOWN DIFFERENT ELEMENTS OF SPINAL MOVEMENT WITH A SPECIAL FOCUS ON HIP AND SHOULDER FLEXIBILITY.

SHE WILL THEN SHOW YOU HER FAVORITE DRILLS FOR BUILDING SPINE STRENGTH AND SAFELY INCREASING YOUR BODY'S RANGE OF MOTION. EXPECT TO LEARN TECHNIQUES FOR FLIPPING THE GRIP IN POSES LIKE BOW AND DANCER, AND BRINGING THE FEET TO THE HEAD FOR COBRA AND EVENTUALLY SCORPION (AH!) SHE WILL ALSO TAKE TIME TO BREAKDOWN POSES PRESENT IN THE BIKRAM SERIES, SUCH AS THE STANDING BACKBEND, CAMEL, AND BELLY DOWN SERIES. ALL LEVELS WELCOME WITH AN OPEN MIND.

Join Irene for this all levels master class to take you deeper into your yoga practice. Building from the ground up with pranayama and meditation she will lead you through a 90 minute practice focusing on balancing the mind body connection through opening the hips and the heart. Emphasis will be placed on building strength and flexibility in a well rounded and dynamic flow. Expect a sweaty practice with room to play or rest as it suits your level of experience. Come with an open mind and a towel!

{DAY 1 } 15 JUNE 2018

this workshop FOCUS IN bend, twist, fold, and strengthen your body so that you can free the movement of your spine. Beginning with a short discussion and meditation, you will be guided through Irene’s warm up sequence to break down different elements of spinal movement with a special focus on hip and shoulder flexibility. She will then show you her favorite drills for building spine strength and safely increasing your body’s range of motion. All levels welcome with an open mind. This is also a perfect workshop for instructors looking for safe ways to help their students build stronger, safer backbends in their practice.

{DAY 2 } 16 JUNE 2018

This workshop is specifically for those with a consistent practice that are looking for ways to deepen their flexibility in their back bending and beyond. Irene will share tips and tricks learned from circus performers, contortionists, and hand balancers in order to help you safely explore new depths. Expect to see things like flipping the grip in poses like bow and dancer, and bringing the feet to the head for cobra and eventually scorpion, over splits, chest stands, and partner stretching. This workshop will be catered to the group based on each individual's goals.

The first hour will be dedicated to core awareness and handstand conditioning, using drills both on and off the wall to help you work towards a free standing handstand. For those that can already handstand, Irene will offer more advanced drills.

Min  : 6 Months Practice In Yoga

HOURS: 3 HOURS

 

{DAY 2 } 16 JUNE 2018

This workshop is focused on refining the foundation of effortless inversions in order to explore more advanced techniques. Irene will break down the stepping stones to a more graceful inversion and arm balance practice, starting with basic drills to build the strength and flexibility required to balance on your hands and upside down. Expect to focus on forearm stand and handstand- working on controlled entrances and exits. Don't worry, if you're not comfortable upside down Irene will give you steps to get there.

The first hour will be dedicated to core awareness and handstand conditioning, using drills both on and off the wall to help you work towards a FREESTANDING handstand. For those that can already handstand, Irene will offer more advanced drills. 

All are welcome as long as you can do dolphin pose.

Beginning with pranayama and meditation, the majority of this class will be a dynamic vinyasa flow exploring the foundations of inversions and arm balances in a fun and playful way. Modifications will be offered for those in the beginning of their yoga journey and amplifications offered for more advanced practitioners. The last past of class will be for slower hip and hamstring opening, allowing you to relax and dissolve into restorative stretches. All levels welcome, but being familiar with basic poses will help you get the most out of this practice.
